that Teaches Debate” at
We are committed to providing a quality tournament experience. The tournament will be under the direction of Tim Cook.
We have created a unique schedule that allows for students to fully experience the forensic experience. Please be sure to study the schedule carefully. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have questions.
Varsity debaters will receive the four preliminary rounds. The top two debaters will be asked to conduct an exhibition round for the novice.
The Tournament that Teaches offers novice students unique educational sessions, debate briefs, and practice rounds. A novice is anyone in his or her first year of competition. Please be aware that some novices may have additional files and may have attended camps this summer. The novice division is created to stress the educational value, not the competition.

Info:
NLD and NCX – Each debater will participate in two educational sessions, receive affirmative / negative briefs, and take part in two practice rounds.
VLD and VCX – Varsity debaters will have four rounds.
Event Rules:
All UIL rules will apply.
A novice is anyone in his or her first year of competition in the event.
Cross-Examination Debate:
The
topic is: Resolved: The United States federal government
should substantially increase
its public health assistance to Sub-Saharan Africa.
In Novice CX, affirmatives are limited to cases listed in the Baylor Briefs. If you need a list please email us.
Lincoln-Douglas Debate:
The
topic is:
Resolved: In a criminal interrogation, the end
justifies the means.

Judging:
CX: One full time judge
for every 2 teams or portion thereof.
LD: One full time judge
for every 4 debaters or portion thereof.

Deadline:
October 15.
We will accept entries after October 1 if size permits.
A drop fee equal to the entry amount will
be charged beginning on October 19.
In addition to the original entry fee,
double drop fees equal to two times the entry fee will be charged the days of
the tournament for drops and no-shows.
Campus Information:
Tobacco
Use: Federal Law prohibits the use of tobacco products on campus or in
ANY building.
Rooms:
Students are not permitted inside a room unless the judge is present.
Entering a room without a judge or entering a room not designated for
competition will result in that individual being expelled from the
tournament and possible fines for damages. Competitors should exit a
competition room (with their belongings) as soon as the round is over.
Chaperones:
All students must be accompanied by a school sponsor or parent chaperone.
Students without proper supervision will not be permitted to compete.
